Corey Evans Evans, Corey - 2006
Sarasota Military Academy

Corey rowed for four years and distinguished himself in both sculling and sweeps. In his junior year he rowed in the bow of the quad that placed 5th in the 2005 US Rowing Youth Nationals and in 2006 US Rowing Nationals stroked the Lightweight Four that placed 9th. The 2006 experience was notable for the closeness of the competition with the top ten boats all finishing within 11.5 seconds of each other. Corey's boat, although finishing 9th, was less than 5 seconds behind the gold medal winner and less than 0.15 seconds behind the bronze medal winner.

Carlos Graterol Graterol, Carlos - 2006
Riverview High School

When Carlos first came out for crew, he was very interested in ROTC but soon found in his words, "The physical demands of crew turned me into one of the fittest ROTC cadets." He devoted himself to crew and enjoyed the experience of taxing himself to his own personal limits.

Chase Hagaman Hagaman, Chase - 2006
Home Schooling

Chase came out for rowing in the summer of 2005 and overcame heavy odds as a senior novice to lead the quad as the stroke in the 2006 National Championships to a 5th place finish. A tremendous athlete who was a former wrestler before moving to Florida in his senior year, he picked up the fundamentals of rowing quickly. He was accepted to several colleges with strong rowing programs but has decided to continue to reside in Sarasota and work closely with his church while attending Manatee Community College. He expects later to transfer to a northern university where he will pick up where he left off with us and compete as a rower. He will also be assisting us as a coach of the novices in the 2006-07 season.

Ryan Andersen Andersen, Ryan - 2005
Sarasota Military Academy

Ryan rowed for four years. As a junior he rowed in the bow of the Osprey Oars quad that won the Florida State Championship and then went on to place 7th at the Nationals in Cincinnati. Also as a junior he was in the 3 seat of the Florida State silver medal lightweight men's Four with. In his senior year his quad won the bronze medal and his ligtweight four placed second. His boat then went on to place 5th at the Nationals in Cincinnati. As for the Osprey Oars he says he was happy to be a member of a smaller club. "It`s not only hands on - it`s one on one," he says, "and we get to know one another a lot better." Ryan will be entering the Coast Guard.

Tim Bobier Bobier, Tim - 2005
Riverview High School

Tim rowed for five years and as a junior stroked both the gold medal quad and bronze medal lightweight four in the 2004 Florida State Championships. His quad then placed 7th at the Nationals. Tim also stoked the quad and lightweight four in his senior year, this time winning silver in the lightweight four and bronze in the quad at the State Championships. In Cincnnati in 2005, his lightweight four placed 5th at the Nationals. He says he learned more from crew about responsibility, leadership and dedication than from anything else in his life. Tim plans to continue rowing at FIT next year where he will study science or mathematics.
